Course Reserves

Course Reserves are course-related materials made available, either electronically or physically, through the Sonoma State University Library. Items that may be on reserve for a class include: books, videos, course readers, textbooks, ebooks, articles, book chapters, journal articles, recordings, and class handouts.

Many faculty members choose to place material on reserve in order to ensure that all students in the class have access to it for free. For equitable access, Course Reserves items may be checked out for shorter period of times— usually two hours or one day, depending on what the instructor has indicated. You can check out course reserves at the Information/Checkout desk on the 2nd floor of the Library.

Course Reserves help students save money by providing them with an alternative to purchasing expensive course materials. Before purchasing any required class materials, check your syllabus or speak with your professor to see if an item is freely available via the library's course reserves program. If not, encourage your professor to put a copy on reserve at the library!
